Suggested itinerary

Arrival Day – Southern Ocean Welcome (follows Island Life itinerary)

Welcome to Kangaroo Island. Upon arrival, your guide will meet you and outline your Island adventure.

Explore the Cygnet Valley, home to koalas, and a diversity of birdlife. Break for tea and coffee, served with home-baked ‘ANZAC’ cookies.

Continue to the island’s north coast, visiting the pristine white sands of Stokes Bay before seeking more of Kangaroo Island’s iconic wildlife species, including Kangaroo Island kangaroos, tammar wallabies, short-beaked echidnas and more.

Lunch is an elegant barbecue served at our private bush restaurant on a friend’s sheep farming property. The menu includes locally-caught fish, grilled halloumi, local potatoes, garden salad, condiments and a crusty bread roll, served with local wines, beer, soft drinks (sodas) and spring water.

Continue south to Seal Bay, where we take a private beach tour, home to a large Australian sea-lion colony. Observe pups playing on the beach, and bulls facing off in territorial disputes while learning about their fascinating breeding biology.

Journey west for the much-anticipated arrival at Southern Ocean Lodge.

A day at leisure (or two)

Relax and enjoy Southern Ocean Lodge.

We recommend a spa treatment, a guided clifftop walk and a lazy afternoon watching the Southern Ocean swells roll in.

Don’t miss Southern Sundowners, one of the Signature Experiences included in all bookings. Here, you will enjoy a range of premium beverages and snacks while watching Kangaroo Island kangaroos grazing in the late afternoon sun.

Another great experience is the evening Nocturnal Tour where you’ll see even more of Kangaroo Island’s wildlife becoming active.

Departure day – North Coast Departure

Upon checkout, it’s time for our North Coast Departure, via Flinders Chase National Park. However, should you have opted to join SOL’s included Wonders of KI tour during your stay, we will amend the itinerary.

Visit Remarkable Rocks, a massive natural sculpture perched impossibly on top of a granite dome plunging into the ocean.

Continue to Admirals Arch – a coastal grotto that is home to a large colony of long-nosed fur seals which swim effortlessly through crashing waves.

Break for an elegant picnic lunch in the bush, or, if weather permits, on a spectacular clifftop. Lunch features marinated poached chicken, fresh salads, and cheeses accompanied by local wines, beer, soft drinks and spring water.

After lunch, exit the National Park and visit a local woodturner, Jonny Gloyne. Explore Johnny’s beautiful range of handmade wood products, including his famous pepper grinders.

Continue to the north coast to experience a different coastal vista to Southern Ocean Lodge.

En route to the airport, we have time for a departure drink. Choose from premium wines at Islander Estate Vineyards, or a gin flight at Kangaroo Island Distillery, Australia’s first contemporary gin producer.

Drop off at Kingscote Airport.
