Did you know that of Australia's 900+ bird species, more than 270 have been seen on Kangaroo Island or over the surrounding ocean. 18 of these are endemic subspecies, which means they are found no where else. Given Kangaroo Island's relatively intact natural environment, many of these species are regular encounters on our selection of Kangaroo Island tours.
Some of these are easy to identify, like Superb Fairy-wrens darting around on the ground, Galahs perched high in the treetops or majestic Wedge-tailed Eagles soaring in the thermals above. Others require a little more knowledge, patience and a trained eye.
We offer one specific private birdwatching tour, where you will join one of our expert birding guides (subject to their availability) to locate a range of Kangaroo Island’s most striking, fascinating and elusive bird species. For other tours that include some birding opportunities, but are not completely focussed on birds, please scroll further down the page.
Given the number of species found across Kangaroo Island, you can still enjoy birdwatching on any of our tours. Other than the specific Kangaroo Island private birdwatching tour above, the following tours will put you in the right place to see a range of bird species.
