Overview

Design your very own custom Kangaroo Island tour.

Here are some of our recommended experiences to pair with our signature wildlife encounters and hospitality:

Meet world echidna expert, Dr Peggy Rismiller

This is a rare chance to interact with one of the world’s leading wildlife researchers. Peggy is passionate, animated and keen to share her knowledge in a relaxed yet informative field-based learning experience. Find out what is involved in revealing the secrets of one of only three egg-laying mammals on earth.

Assemblage art with Janine Mackintosh

Through her success in natural history art exhibitions and the extraordinary collection of her work at Southern Ocean Lodge, Janine is fast becoming one of Australia’s most celebrated assemblage artists. A visit to her private studio gives privileged access to a world where art meets science in a calm creative space.

Ocean rafting and wild dolphin swim

Get out on the water to explore the Island by sea. The “shared space with nature” that the Island is known for extends into the ocean. Seek out one of two resident dolphin pods near Emu Bay and, if you are keen, take a swim in the shallows with dolphins free to come to pay a visit. September through June.

Jonny Gloyne – functional wooden art

Kangaroo Island has nearly thirty different Eucalyptus species – all of which have hard and often beautifully coloured timbers. Artisan wood-turner Jonny Gloyne invites you to visit his isolated studio on the edge of the wilderness. Learn about local timbers and lathe art direct from the source,

Private wine tasting at Islander Estate Vineyard

Get a backstage pass to the inner sanctum of Islander Estate Vineyard. Take a vineyard walk back to the barrel room to sample wines from Bordeaux vigneron Jacques Lurton’s only Southern Hemisphere outpost. Elegant wines are crafted from a diversity of vines including Semillon, Cabernet Franc and more.

Gin Blending Masterclass

Ever wanted to create your own gin? Not just making a cocktail – but actually blending the composite flavours to craft a truly unique tipple. This curated bench-top experience will end up with you taking your own bottle home – and leaving a recipe on record so you can order and restock when needed!

Ales, Lagers and Stouts

Pop in and meet the crew at Kangaroo Island Brewery for a sample of their brews and a back-of-house tour. The micro-brewery has rapidly become a local favourite with pop-up pizzas, open-mike music nights and a dog-friendly venue. Brewer Mike is also a builder so he is sometimes hard to track down…

All-terrain Adventures

Get off the beaten track with the team from Kangaroo Island Outdoor Action. This private guided ATV experience begins with an introduction to the vehicles, a safety briefing and then a couple of practice laps of the training circuit. The tour takes you right into the bush to explore the coastal mallee of the South Coast.
