Kangaroo Island Lodge is located 30 minutes from the Kingscote Airport in the small fishing village of American River and situated on the waterfront overlooking Eastern Cove and American River. Nestled below a high ridge, the gardens feature many native plants which provide nectar and shelter for local wildlife and , there is a myriad of native wildlife, birdlife and wallabies can often be seen feeding right on the property. Glossy black cockatoos feed on the property and nest in the nearby valleys.
The restaurant is considered one of the best public dining venues on the Island and has a strong focus on showcasing local produce and changes regularly to reflect seasonal opportunities. The property has a conference room which can be used for guest speakers after dinner as part of a programme for special interest groups. The locality has a mix of habitat types making it an excellent choice for guests interested in natural history with excellent bird watching opportunities close by.
Room Options
There are four room categories: Waterview, Bayview or Poolview, plus the new luxury villas. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms, reverse cycle air conditioning, in room WiFi, bar fridge, LCD TV and each room has sea views. Guests also have use of a pool, tennis court, guest laundry, games room, and lounge with fireplace adjacent the bar.

Designed for privacy, comfort, and connection to nature, each villa offers a spacious King Bed, large-screen TV, and modern, stylish interiors with stunning bay views. Surrounded by native bushland, enjoy total seclusion while still having access to all hotel facilities – including the pool, restaurant, and bar.
12 Deluxe Studio Waterview
These have King beds all of which convert to King singles – 2 of these rooms have an additional single bed so can be used for double, twin or triple occupancy. Additional features include iron and board, hair dryer, Nespresso coffee machine, microwave, toaster and i-Pod dock. These large rooms are of rammed earth construction and are presented as 6 pairs of interconnecting rooms with a common entry hall so are an excellent choice for family travel.
16 Superior Bayview
These rooms have King beds all of which convert to King singles and there is room for an additional rollaway for triple occupancy. These large rooms have a private patio with views out to the ocean. Features include king size bed, LCD TV, reverse cycle air conditioning, in room WiFi, bar fridge, ensuite with walk-in shower, iron board, hair dryer, tea and coffee making facilities, alarm clock.
10 Superior Poolview rooms
These rooms have Queen beds – 2 with an additional single bed so can be used for double, twin or triple occupancy.
