Great tour

We took two trips with this company in a small coach each day. Our drivers, Lee and Tim were both very knowledgeable and gave us lots of information about the place and animals we were seeing. On both days each of these drivers cooked a barbecue or lunch set out on special tables for us.
It was a great experience and I can well recommend this company for making our stay on Kangaroo Island very enjoyable.

Vacation

Kangaroo Island is a magical place and we really enjoyed our tours. Both Ron and Dave were very friendly and professional and you could tell they love what they do, love the animals and are excited to share their knowledge of their beloved island and its enchanting creatures. They both made us lunch al fresco and it was wonderful! Thanks for a great experience.

Kangaroo Island at it's best!

Blair Lee and Rob took us around Kangaroo Island visiting Seal Bay and other areas. Despite the fires there is still plenty to see and do on Kangaroo Island. The food was fantastic and the guides wonderfully knowledgeable. Blair is a real treasure.

A must book

We travelled with Exceptional Kangaroo Island on a short break to Kangaroo Island as part of our holiday in Oz. We booked our own flights from Adelaide but from there they took over for two days. They transferred us to our accommodation and took us on two days to see key sites on the Island where we saw Koalas, Kangaroos and seals and other things. It was well guided by Michael, David and Chris in a small group of 8 other guests.
Whilst Kangaroo Island has suffered from the fires (now all out after rain) there was plenty to see in areas that have been only lightly touched. There are still lots of reasons for everyone to take the time to visit the Island.

Fantastic Tour

We visited Kangaroo Island for two days on 7/8 February and went on two day tours with Exceptional Kangaroo Island. Due to the recent fires our tour for the second day was changed but it in no way detracted from our experience. Our thanks to Lee and Jamie for an amazing experience. Please please visit the island as they need your support. We saw lots of kangaroos, wallabies and koalas. The visit to Seal Bay was amazing. Lee and Jamie we’re both very knowledgeable. We had an amazing time. We especially enjoyed the outdoor lunches.

Kangaroo Island or Bust

I highly recommend this trip – especially now. We were planning to visit Kangaroo Island and stay at the beautiful Southern Ocean Lodge, but 2 weeks prior to our travel, the lodge was badly destroyed with the horrific bush fires on Kangaroo Island. While we had to change our plans, and spend a couple extra days in Adelaide and fly over for the day to Kangaroo Island, we used Exceptional Kangaroo Island tours and Jamie Bowden as our Interpretive Tour Guide and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip to Australia. The fires were devastating to the Island, impacting tourism and the emotional impact of so many. Thanks to Jamie and his incredible experience, we were able to share not only in some of the emotion of those horrific bush-fires, but also give back to the community and local economy by making the trip. Please go visit!!!!

Spend your day with exceptional guides

Spent two days seeing wildlife sights around Kangaroo Island with our exceptional guides Ron, Rob and Michael who blended Australian humor with knowledge of wildlife and natural history and their love of the land. Yes, kangaroo Island suffered from the wildfires but it is a big Island with beautiful beaches and views and wildlife still to see. Koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, and birds you can see up close. And in between you are served morning tea and a gourmet lunch complete with China and tablecloths. You will want for nothing on this very personal tour with small group size of ten to twelve and two guides. Visit Australia and don’t miss seeing Kangaroo Island with this company!

Beautiful Kangaroo Island

We visited January 18-20, 2020, as the fires have diminished. The skies are clear, the air is good.
Michael Caspar was our guide for 2 days. He was passionate, knowledgeable, and fun. He drove us around the eastern portion of the island, showing us wildlife, flora, and interesting sights. Lunch, snacks, and coffee/tea were provided throughout the days in beautiful venues. The food was of excellent quality; and there were always a variety of liquids available

Most importantly, there is enough to see and on Kangaroo Island to keep one satisfied. Yes, the fires have done damage; at the same time we felt good in supporting the local tourism economy, but there was no sacrifice on our part, as the touring was excellent. Koala, echidnas, kangaroo, sea lions, goanna, and many more species were seen. Exciting!

Easy to recommend Exceptional Kangaroo Island as a tour operator (Michael Caspar) as well as the Island itself! Go and enjoy.

Best way to see Kangaroo Island and the precious unique nature and ecosystems it contains!

I went with the family 2 children and 3 adults, spent 3 days touring Kangoroo Island with Mr Jamie Bowden and Mr Lee: the experience was wonderful, the way they treated us, the knowledge about the island, the history, the local customs, the way they care for nature, their safety measures…. They definitively exceeded our expectations. We will return and book the tour with the same company and hopefully the same guides. They were both amazing!

Superb small group tour

We only stayed for one night on Kangaroo Island but managed to do two full-day tours with Exceptional Kangaroo Island Tours and they were excellent. Upon arrival at the airport, we were immediately met by Tim and Mike and started our trip of the island in a large four-wheel vehicle which was more akin to a military vehicle. There were about eight or ten of us so a relatively small group of tourists. After touring around part of the island we stopped for amid morning cuppa and biscuits as well as a BBQ lunch. The following day we were picked up from our guest house, Stranraer Homestead and ventured out for another full day. On this occasion, we were the only guests so it was more like a private tour with Mike as our driver and guide. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the island and were even taken to parts which are normally off-limits to the general public where we saw numerous kangaroos and even an echidna. Lunch was served by Mike in an old stores building at Weirs Cove overlooking the bay towards the Remarkable Rocks. At the end of our day out Mike dropped us off at the airport ready to fly back to Adelaide to continue our great Australian adventure. Very professional tour company with staff who couldn’t have been more friendly. Have no hesitation in recommending this excellent company.

Great Two Day Private Tour

Visiting Kangaroo Island with our teenage daughter, friends and their two kids. Spent two full days with our Private Guide Dave Forman who was extremely knowledgeable about the animals and history of the Island. We saw many koalas, kangaroos and seals, swam at some great beaches, and even snuck in some time at a local distillery and brewery. Best food we had on the island were the lunches prepared by Dave. Was not expecting to get white table cloth service with grilled fish and cheese with local wines in the Bush with a koala hanging out steps away. Highly recommend tour group and our guide!

Fabulous Tour

We had a great full day tour of Kangaroo Island, in which we saw kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, glossy black birds, cockatoos, and seals, all in their natural habitat. Jamie, our guide, shared his knowledge of the island and the various animals and he had a really good ear which helped in locating the kangaroos, wallabies and birds within the forest. He also prepared a wonderful lunch under a tent, all while graciously answering my endless questions. Thank you Jamie, for making it such a great experience.

Excellent tour guide

This was our first time to Australia and we were greeted by Tim Wendt for our full day tour and he made it very memorable. We were expecting a small group tour, but it turned out to be just me and my husband, so Tim made it extra special because we had more time to see more things. The views were stunning and the koala and kangaroos were everywhere and the birds were as loud as can be. From the coffee/tea/ cookies stop in the Bush, to the amazing lunch surrounded by wildlife, it was more than we could have imagined. I highly recommend this adventure and I hope Tim is your guide.

Wonderful tour of Kangaroo Island

We had a great tour with Exceptional Kangaroo Island. Tim Wendt was our guide and he did an amazing job. Very knowledgeable about the island and it’s wildlife. We saw kangaroos and koalas in the wild and absolutely beautiful beaches. We also visited Seal Bay which was wonderful. One of highlights was a lovely barbecue lunch served to us under a tent in the Bush, prepared by Tim. This is a great company, highly recommended

We had an exceptional day with Dave Forman who took great care in touring us around amazing Kangaroo Island. He was very knowledgable and shared personal accounts of his life on the island which gave us an intimate look at the animals and environment they live in. We were sorry the day ended. We also met another wonderful couple on our tour from Australia which we hope to meet again.

Lifetime of Memories on Kangaroo Island

As the name of the implies, Exceptional Kangaroo Island is truly that. I was met at the airport by a very knowledgeable guide who began my tour with some background history of the island. I still have memories of the rest of the day and the bush walk among the animals we startled as we discovered them sleeping well hidden by the bush. Seeing both the New Zealand fur seal colony and the contrasting fat, Australian seals at Seal Bay was a highlight. Finally, I can still remember the taste of the “gourmet” lunch served with Aussie wine. I can’t say enough about this tour and I can’t recommend it enough.

Highlight of our month-long trip to Australia!

We were met at Kingscote airport by Mike, our guide for our two-day visit. Our first stop was Vivonne Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia. There we had morning tea on the jetty and got a sample of the cold, Antarctic wind. Our next stops were Admiral’s Arch, the Cape du Couedic Lighthouse, and the Remarkable Rocks – beautiful views all around. We drove to a private spot for a delicious picnic lunch of salad and poached chicken. Mike was a fantastic host. After lunch, we drove to Flinders Chase National Park where we saw a male koala trying to mate with a female koala. There was a lot a grunting and shrieking. It was quite a sight to see. Along the way, Mike spotted an echidna and stopped the van so that we could see it up close. The next day, Mike was joined by another guide Lee, since our group was going to be larger. Our first stop was at the Duck Lagoon for morning tea and wildlife spotting. We then drove to a small town called Parndana where Lee told us about the “soldiers’ houses” that were put up after WWII to encourage servicemen to move to KI. We had a delicious lunch of salad and grilled whiting at a private area on a sheep ranch. After lunch, we went to Seal Bay Conservation Park. I have difficulty walking, so Lee walked on the boardwalk path with me to make sure I had the same experience as those who could do the hike to the beach. These two days were definitely the highlight of our month-long trip to Australia. If only it were closer to the U.S.!

Excellent commentary with so much wildlife and fabulous food

We were guided round Kangaroo Island by this exceptional group. The first day, Dave Forman, took us to Flinders Chase to see so much wonderful wildlife. Dave’s commentary was very good as he had great local knowledge and was able to impart this in a thoughtful manner.. it was obvious he has a love for the place and the environment. The second day we had 2 guides, Jamie and Lee. Their commentary was not as fantastic as Dave’s, but their love of the island, wildlife and lifestyle were still very evident. On both days we had small groups (5,7) We saw some much wildlife up close. Some of these included koalas, wallaby, Kangaroo, echidna, fur seals, sea lions, wedgetail eagles, Cape Barren. Geese and goslings. The food supplied was of excellent quality and the settings we ate in were spectacular. We also visited many amazing sites such as Remarkable Rocks, Stokes Bay and so many others. Could not recommend these guys more highly.

Kangaroo Island Wanderer tour was fantastic!

We spent two wonderful days touring with Exceptional Kangaroo Island. Probably since it was winter our group was only 4 people each day which was wonderful. We saw a lot of the island over two days. There are beautiful vistas everywhere you look! There was an agenda but our guides stopped when there were animals to see or beautiful views for photo opportunities-very flexible. Our first guide was Jamie who grew up on the island and was able to give us the history of his family and the island which was so interesting. He took us to Lathami Conservation Park, Seal Bay and everything in between. He also was kind enough to show us his beautiful property on and off the coast! The lunches we had both days were chef prepared and delicious. Jamie barbecued Kangaroo Island Whiting which was one of the best meals we had on our whole trip! Tim was our guide the second day and took us to Flinders Chase, Admirals Arch and Remarkable Rocks. Tim has a fun sense of humor and gave us plenty of time everywhere we went. We never felt rushed or hurried along. He also kindly helped another tourist with us at every stop who walked with a cane. They provide bottled water for the day, restroom stops and a variety of drinks at lunch including Kangaroo Island wine. Two very different tours but both were the times of our life! We highly recommend Exceptional Kangaroo Island to make your experience well rounded and fun!

Best tour imaginable

We had our 2 day tour with Jamie and he was the best, it felt more like driving around with a friend than a tour. He was super informative, funny, and outgoing, and had an amazing knowledge of the island and the animals. The picnic lunch was also delicious- everything was local to kangaroo island including the wines! I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in seeing kangaroo island through the eyes of a local.

Two different and brilliant touring days

We had the absolute pleasure of 2 days touring Kangaroo Island with Ron (and Jamie and Lee) on this island where wildlife, fauna and farming uniquely co-exist. To see the animals and unique trees and plants in the wild was very special – kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, koalas, flaming black cockatoos, sea lions and fur seals. Then the second day on to the wild weather of the Flinders Chase National Park – exhilarating. Our guides (Jamie and Bill) shared their vast knowledge including the history and found amazing spots to stop and prepare and serve lunch for us. We were most grateful to have chosen the Exceptional Kangaroo Island.

Fantastic Two Day Tour

Loved this tour. We saw all the animals we had hoped to see going about their daily lives. Plus had the added benefit of animals on a beautiful scenic island. The guides knew everything about the island, its animals and history. We enjoyed two wonderful lunches. One a fish cookout in a sheep farmers field and the other a wonderful chicken salad on a cliff overlooking a beautiful ocean view. We were so glad we did this tour.

Full tour of a beautiful island

We booked a full day guided tour with Exceptional Kangaroo Island and had an absolutely fantastic experience. Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, and it was a very personal group tour (we were with only one other couple). We were taken to different points on the island, all of which highlighted the incredible beauty and diversity of life and nature on the island. Highlights of the trip included spotting koalas and kangaroos out in the wild, in addition to the numerous bird species inhabiting Kangaroo Island. Our tour also included stops on the northern and southern beaches of the island. It was incredible seeing how these two sides of the island differed, with our trip to the northern beach involving a trek through rocks to a beautiful secluded beach and our trip to the southern beach showing us Seal Bay and the large number of seals calling the beach home. For lunch we had a delicious fresh barbecued lunch prepared by our tour guide that was truly one of the best meals I had during our entire trip. Would absolutely recommend using Exceptional Kangaroo Island to get to experience the beauty of Kangaroo Island!

Extraordinary and Excellent Two-Day Experience

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our two-day tour to Seal Bay, Flinders Chase, Cape du Couedic, Remarkable Rocks and other adventures. Bill was our guide, and he was attentive, knowledgeable, responsive, and adapted the trip to the needs of our guests. We saw many koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, and a wide variety of birds. We will review our lodging at Stranraer Homestead B&B separately, but that was an amazing place. The lunches provided both days of the tour were remarkably good, with local wine, beer or other beverages and other surprises. My wife and I had the advantage of spending nights before and after at our Kangaroo Island lodging, so we did not have the pressure of a morning flight in or out before or after the tour. This enhanced the enjoyment.

What a grand two day experience....

My wife and I celebrated our 40th Anniversary on Kangaroo Island, South Australia, in the company of the outstanding owner/operator Craig and a bevy of “his wildlife friends” who he introduced to us in such a meaningful and thoughtful manner. Every aspect of this tour was designed to educate, expand our awareness and concern for the immense beauty of the Island wildlife and fauna. The minibus was very comfortable. The attention to detail, and for our comfort was always sincere and successful.Craig is unique in many ways and provided an atmosphere of learning and appreciation of just where we were at any moment throughout the day. We will be recommending this company and Craig to all interested in an awesome introduction to the Nature of Australia! Don’t miss this experience.

The best part of our 2 weeks in Australia!

I traveled to KI with 2 friends and we had a two-day private tour through Exceptional KI, including the “Island Life” and “Flinder’s Chase” itineraries. One guest in our group had mobility limitations, so being able to customize the tour was crucial to us. Ron was our tour guide and picked us up at the Kingscoate airport and started our tour. We wanted to experience all of the wildlife and natural beauty that KI had to offer and Ron delivered. We spotted about 8 koalas in their natural habitat, several mobs of kangaroos, seals, sea lions, rare birds, and echidnas. We visited the most talked-about sites — Admiral’s Arch, Seal Bay, the Remarkable Rocks, etc. Both days we had morning tea/coffee at beautiful locations and 5-star lunches, including a fresh seafood BBQ with white linen service. I am an avid traveler and must admit that KI is the most beautiful place that I ever visited and I am grateful to Exceptional KI for guiding us.

I cannot say enough positive things about Ron. He is knowledgeable, personable, funny, and has an obvious genuine love for KI. His excitement about the island bled through into every experience and he was invested in us having an exceptional holiday. All my future tour guides will be held to the “Ron Standard” and will probably fail!

Best way to see it all

We were on the Focus tour of Exceptional KI. A very efficient way to see this 95 x 35 mile island with its wildlife. Without a guide tour you will probably miss seeing a lot of the animals because of the places you will not be allowed to access. They pick you up and return you to the airport and your hotel. We did 2 all day tours and one night at the Ozone Hotel. The tour groups are small under 10 people, vehicles are very nice and can go off road as well which you need. Love the high tea in the bush and amazing white tablecloth lunches with local wines for lunch as well. Our guides actually barbecued one of our lunches in the bush that was amazing. The guides are local and usually have amazing stories to share as well to give you a real flavor of living here and culture. Book this tour, you will not be disappointed.
